Who is the GSP? Who Runs it? What does it do?

GSP stands for the Grenfell Park, St Thomas, Port Tennant Partnership and was established as a group name to start the regeneration process in the area, and represents the geographical area covered by the partnership. The GSP Partnership has continued to build since its inception in 2003 and became a Limited Company in October 2005 and is currently waiting for confirmation of charitable status.

The partnership has developed and adopted all documents relating to good governance and applied to the WDA Regeneration Toolkit for funding for a Co-ordinator to work with the partnership to take forward the recommendations from the Consultant’s Report and work with the Partnership and others to improve the area through an Action plan, as well as linking into the opportunities arising from the SA1 Development.

The GSP Group are an extremely active and successful partnership, working to better the community, ensuring that they exploit the full potential that an internationally recognised property development brings to the area.
Some of our successful projects have included the 1st Community Awards, the GSP Charity Calendar and the Magazine. To date we have already published 12 issues which have been delivered to every house in the St Thomas Ward including SA1 Swansea Waterfront. The first newsletter was funded by the WDA and introduced the GSP to the community. The second issue was funded by SCVS and gave the community a chance to catch up on some of the things we have done and some of our future plans.

We hope to continue to publish magazines regularly and hope that more members of our community will start writing articles for it.

We also had this years second annual Celtic Light Parade though whilst scheduled for St. David’s Day it was postponed because of snow, however, it did successfully take place a couple of weeks later.

This year also saw the return of the much missed Eastside Carnival. Whilst these days we can’t have floats our two walking parades certainly brought some cheer to our community and the turn out at Jersey Park was fantastic.
We are also working to establish properly a 50+ Forum, a Business Forum and a Youth Forum to represent more of our community.

Other than raising money through events or advertising we have applied to various organisations for a variety of different funds.

We have had a flexible package of support from the Welsh Assembly Government including office set up costs and development co-ordinator costs.

SDF (Swansea Development Fund) through SCVS (Swansea Council for Voluntary Service) helped us in our first year with funding for 4 issues of the magazine. It is excellent that we have managed to produce a further 12 issues through advertising and the support of local businesses.

Swansea’s £2,000,000 Sail Bridge connects the city’s marina with the new SA1 Waterfront Development
We have arranged and raised money for the following good causes and charities: SA1 Youth Club, Anthony Heslop, Connor Jones, Leukaemia Research and Cancer Research UK.

Our ultimate aim is to develop a sustainable social enterprise through partnership which will help to support further projects to regenerate our community.
